MONSTER MUSIC FEES

At Monster Music, there are two types of fees:

A monthly lesson fee and a once-a-year resource fee.

Monthly Lesson Fees
Annual Resource Fee

MONTHLY LESSON FEES

Monster Music’s lesson fees work to an annual set fee system. The annual fee is split into ten payments, which are invoiced throughout the year (rather than 1 large invoice each term) The fee will be dependent on the type of lesson your child is enrolled in. Please find below the different options available.

  • 30 minute group lessons | $920 per year, spread across ten monthly payments of $92 + CC fees

  • 20 minute private lessons | $1050 per year, spread across ten monthly payments of $105 + CC fees

  • 30 minute private lessons | $1360 per year, spread across ten monthly payments of $136 + CC fees

FAQ’S

  • All lesson fees are paid securely by credit or debit card through Stripe (our trusted payment provider). Stripe charges 2.7% + $0.30 per transaction. Families will need to upload their current card details into our online platform, Opus. After that, payments are set to auto-pay - so once your details are saved, everything runs automatically and you don’t have to worry about it again.

  • Unfortunately we can’t accept weekly payments for lessons. We have recently restructured our payment scheme to make it more affordable, rather than large lump payments (we used to charge per term!).

  • After your first invoice (charged when lessons begin), all future payments are processed on the 1st of each month. No payments are taken in December or January. If your child starts later in the year, you’ll only be invoiced from their start date.

  • As outlined in our terms and conditions, we ask for a minimum 3-month commitment from each student/family. Withdrawals are only accepted on specific dates during the year (see dates here). Outside of these times, requests will be considered case by case, but we aim to stick closely to the set withdrawal dates. Please also remember that 4 weeks’ notice is required to withdraw on any of these dates.

  • Our lesson terms are designed to align closely with the school terms. At Monster Music, Terms 1 and 4 are usually shorter (around 8 weeks) because the start and end of the year are especially busy for students. Terms 2 and 3 match the school terms (around 10 weeks). Don’t worry! These shorter terms are already factored into the fee amounts.

  • GST is included however there is a credit card fee each month. The fee charged by the credit card company is 2.7% + $0.30.

You will also need to pay an “Annual Resource Fee” which is $50 per year.

  • In the case of a tutor absence, Monster Music Management will determine the best course of action - ideally a reliever. In some instances you will receive a monetary credit which will go towards your next invoice. We are very fair though and will make sure your child gets either a) an extra lesson or b) a monetary refund.

  • The lesson fee will still remain the same, however one of the following will happen

    a) We will firstly try to find an alternative day for lessons to avoid a clash that week

    b) If we are unable to make "a" work, we will offer your child a Monster Make Up!

  • Unfortunately, no. We would love to be more flexible on this, but tutors still need to be paid, even if your child isn't in the lesson, therefore the annual fee will remain the same. We can however, offer your child up to 2 Monster Make Ups per school term. You can find out more about Monster Make Ups here. Flick us an email if this relates to you and we can chat about a fair option.

  • To keep things simple and consistent, our fees increase by 1.5% each year on 1 June. This is well below the national CPI and helps us cover the rising costs of delivering high-quality lesson programmes.

ANNUAL RESOURCE FEE

The Monster Music Annual Fee is $50 per year and covers all your child’s physical/digtial books, wristbands, lanyard, handouts, prizes, and treats.

FAQ’S

  • It covers all your child’s books (usually around 2.5 per year), wristbands, a lanyard, handouts, end-of-term treats, and prizes for competitions. No hidden extras.

    • Returning families: when you re-enrol in November/December (it also secures your spot for next year).

    • New families: when you first enrol (prorated if you join part-way through the year).

  • It’s paid securely by credit card at the time you complete your child’s enrolment or re-enrolment form.

  • Yes - guitar, drums, keyboard, ukulele, or singing. Each has its own structured, gamified Monster curriculum.

  • Because books, wristbands, prizes, and other resources are already provided, and the fee also supports scheduling. That said, if you ever feel it hasn’t been fair, we’re always open to a conversation.

  • If your child is towards the end of the curriculum, just reach out - we’ll chat with you about whether the full fee makes sense.

  • If we can’t place your child within 3 months, you can choose to have the fee refunded and we can remove them from our waiting list.

  • The Annual Fee is not refunded if you withdraw mid-year, since resources and scheduling have already been provided.

  • This system saves families money (most kids use around 2.5 books per year) and removes the stress of surprise charges. One simple fee covers everything, upfront. We used to charge per book, but it became frustrating for families to have extra surprises!

  • No stress - just flick us an email at office@monstermusic.nz
